Who We Are

We are members of the Greater Milwaukee Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Members of the El Salvador Companion Synod Committee have worked to create and maintain this site.

As part of the Companion Synod Program of the ELCA, the Greater Milwaukee Synod has been in partnership with the Iglesia Luterana Salvadoreña since June, 1988.  Through the SHARE Foundation, the Greater Milwaukee Synod helped to sponsor a group of Salvadoran refugees who returned from Nicaragua and founded Comunidad Rutilio Grande in March, 1991.

We are strongly focused on building mutual relationships in which we learn from each other and grow in faith together. We focus on sustainability at all levels - in our relationships and in the church itself. The development projects which we support as sister churches and as a synod are created through visioning and planning as teams of Salvadorans and North Americans working together.

Each of the links at the top of this page will take you to a page which provides information and examples of ways in which Milwaukee area churches are working together with their sister churches and the Salvadoran Lutheran Church.
